This week, the girls learning journalism at the Omid-e-Mehr center, had an amazing trip to the offices of the Shargh Newspaper in Tehran. They have all been attending a journalism workshop taught by an ex journalist (Ms. Afazeli) and the trip was an excellent opportunity to see how newspapers are created and what it is like to be a journalist.
As part of their workshop, they have been conducting interviews with staff and other students at the center and have even printed Omid-e-Mehr's first Farsi Newsletter called Mehrdokht (or the Daughter of Mehr).
At the newspaper office, the girls met editorial staff, photo journalists and reporters covering sports, local news and business news. They were able to talk to them about how they collect information, the procedure an article has to go through before it gets printed and what their experiences of being a journalist were. The girls had a great time and hopefully it will have inspired some of the girls to follow a career in journalism.
